Artist's Description
Charybdis was identified in Greek mythology as a ship-devouring monster off the north coast of Messina strait in Italy. It claimed its victims by creating a strong whirlpool that few vessels could escape. This stylistic fractal portrayal merges the beauty and the violence of these tremendously powerful waves created by a monstrous whirlpool and alarmingly high tsunami-like walls of water.
See also the fractal abstract "Scylla" in this portfolio for a portrayal of ancient sailors' other nightmare on the Strait of Messina. The Scylla and Charybdis abstracts are photographic negatives of one another... an appropriate pairing of fractal abstracts with completely different character and worthy of posting next to one another as wall art.
