Charybdis was identified in Greek mythology as a ship-devouring monster off the north coast of Messina strait in Italy. It claimed its victims by creating a strong whirlpool that few vessels could escape. This stylistic fractal portrayal merges the beauty and the violence of these tremendously powerful waves created by a monstrous whirlpool and alarmingly high tsunami-like walls of water.

The eye seems to hungrily seek out repeating patterns by instinct, while the mind assembles separate or even disparate pieces into a single cohesive whole. Fractal art spontaneously elicits a gratifying union of both processes. I create fractal art through a digital medium. I am drawn to making fractal images that evoke a sense of the familiar. The joy that comes from uncovering the “familiar” while transforming fractals can be intense, similar to the “eureka!” moment of an epiphany.
