This fractal abstract depicts the stark but beautiful planetary profile of a fictional water world that changed after a large asteroid struck the planet at an unimaginable speed. The impact unleashed worldwide tsunamis, created chasms thousands of times larger than those on Mars, boiled the oceans almost dry, thinned the atmosphere to a slim wrapping, and killed all life. When the dust settled almost 100 years later, the surface bore a striking rusty resemblence to Mars.
Fractals! There is richness and wonder in endless repetition. The eye seems to hungrily seek out repeating patterns by instinct, while the mind assembles separate or even disparate pieces into a single cohesive whole. Fractal art spontaneously elicits a gratifying union of both processes. I create fractal art through a digital medium. I am drawn to making fractal images that evoke a sense of the familiar. The joy that comes from uncovering the “familiar” while transforming fractals can be intense, similar to the “eureka!” moment of an epiphany.
