Artist's Description

The Japonica star system includes 3 earth-sized rocky worlds whose orbits weave a fantastically "braided" composite orbit, all in the so-called Goldilocks Zone. Planets 4 and 5 of the system are at times only 175,000 miles apart from one another. Fractula japonica is a common hedge on Planet 4 (Hjerkima). It spreads its hardened orange and yellow spores into the black vacuum of space shortly before Planet 5 (Salum) orbits close by. The yellow and orange sheen as the spores fill interplanetary space in a moderately dense cloud has mystified astronomers for centuries. The effects of this seeding of Planet 5 are presently unknown. The dissemination of the spores is fractally illustrated here. Fun fractal art for sci-fi minded folks (and others of course).

The eye seems to hungrily seek out repeating patterns by instinct, while the mind assembles separate or even disparate pieces into a single cohesive whole. Fractal art spontaneously elicits a gratifying union of both processes. I create fractal art through a digital medium. I am drawn to making fractal images that evoke a sense of the familiar. The joy that comes from uncovering the “familiar” while transforming fractals can be intense, similar to the “eureka!” moment of an epiphany. Many of my fractal designs are specifically created to mimic elements found in our daily lives. The most frequent themes of my work are candies, flora and fauna, machinery, and fanciful...
